Originally my idea was to do a painted project using stanley spencer as a source of inspiration, so started with with charcoal to determine tone for future paintings.
This did not interest me as much as i firdt thought it would, so changed my approach completely, looking at the work of Mike Bernard (a collage artist who uses a mixed media surface, with a wash and layer of white paint where the lighter areas of the image will be/ areas without collage, then draws the outline in white paint, defines detail with black and colours the image with watered down paint whether it be gouache, acrylic or watercolour.
